Technical information - benefits to the customer of thermoplastics

For many years Korroterm has worked with thermoplastic surface treatment. Our partners include DuPont, a world leader in the manufacture of industrial polymers, which markets thermoplastic powders for fluidised bed coating and electrostatic coating under the Abcite® brand.

We also use other well known brands of thermoplastic for surface treatment, including Rilsan from Arkema, PPA 571 from Plascoat and Halar from Solvay Elexis.

Thermoplastics are approved for food and drinking water applications.

A wide range of colours is available.

The material can be built up into thick layers.

Generally very good UV resistance and weatherproof.

Abcite® is available in several grades including:

X 0545 - An all round plastic grade, slightly softer with excellent adhesion.

X 1060 - A harder reversible elastic copolymer, combining the toughness of thermoplastic and the strength of rigid plastic, with excellent adhesion.

Rilsan® - Polyamid 11, used primarily where there are strict wear resistance criteria due to its hardness and wear resistance. Rilsan is very scratch resistant and can withstand high operating temperatures, e.g. hot water. Used where low friction is required, for impellers, valves etc. Good electrical insulation properties at high operating temperatures. Available in standard colours.

Melting point/operating temperature: 185°C/ +125°C.
